I noticed two things when I stepped off the airplane at 12:30 AM on Thursday night: it's freezing and it smells like beautiful, towering pine trees. I didn't know I could sense beauty through smells! When I woke up in the morning and saw the green mountains and sparkling blue water, I could tell how much I missed places like this while I was in Texas. I'll never take mountains for granted again!
I had a bit of a stressful morning yesterday because my bike didn't arrive on the same flight as I did. I got it by 4 in the afternoon but we did some swimming and running at the race course (64.9 degrees F in the water and we didn't have wetsuits - they were in the bike box) and we got a drive of the bike course. It is going to be challenging but I feel very prepared. The hill running out of the swim up to the transition area is long and steep! I really like the run course - hilly runs really put everyone to the test.
This morning we woke up to a downpour and had a leisurely morning waiting it out a bit then went to the course to swim (with a wetsuit this time!) and run. It has been dry for a few hours so I will go ride the course soon. The forecast is for "heavy rain, 100% chance" tomorrow... guess we'll have to deal with it!
Anyway this place is very beautiful and I wish I could stay here longer. The people are very friendly and downtown is very quaint and cute. Also I noticed I had a tough time finding some trash to pick up on my runs (it's my custom to pick up a piece on every run). I haven't been able to take very many photos yet because my battery died but I will post what I have now. Keep checking back!
